Breed: Australian Shepherd
Name: Luke Cage
Age: 2 years old
Breed: Australian Shepherd mix
Hey friends let me introduce you to Ozzie! This 2 year old Aussie mix boy came to CHAR with hip dysplasia in BOTH hips. He was in a LOT of pain and had such difficulty moving around that the shelter initially thought he was much older.
Fast forward almost 6 months and we have Ozzie 2.0!! He has had FHO surgery on both hips and is making strides each and every day. He will never be a champion dock diver or agility star but he gets a gold medal in couch snuggling and people pleasing! This handsome boy is crate trained, housebroken, walks great on a leash, is learning basic commands, and is relatively low energy! Ozzie gets along well with his foster sister and has done well with most other dogs he has met. He really wants to play (loves to chase and play “bitey” face) and would do great with a smaller or very respectful sibling that won’t jump on him. He does seem to be a typical herder in that he has a fairly high prey drive. If it moves he will chase it. So only canine savvy cats please.
Because this kid was in pain for much of his puppyhood his development was a little delayed. At 2 he is still a bit mouthy and sometimes doesn’t realize how hard he nibbles. Ozzie adores everyone he has ever met and charms his way into your heart and your bed (trust me on that!). If you are looking for a constant companion that will love you unconditionally and make sure you NEVER leave the room unaccompanied-Ozzie is the guy for you. Ozzie will need a family that understands his limitations but is invested in taking him for walks and making sure that he gets the physical exercise he needs to continue to heal.
ADDENDUM: His family will need to allow his foster parents visitation and agree to provide ongoing updates on his progress for the remainder of his life!
Ozzie is UTD on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped. He is currently fostered in Charlotte, NC and his adoption fee is $300.
If you are an approved applicant and are interested in Ozzie please contact the adoption committee. If you are interested but have not yet applied, please visit our website for adoption procedures and application.
Name: Pepper Potts
Age: 3 years old
Breed: Border Collie mix
Pepper Potts is a sweet and shy 3 year old Border Collie (mix) girl looking for a patient forever home to call her own. She is just under 30 pounds, but could really stand to gain a few more pounds to get to a healthy weight. Pepper came to CHAR after living most of her life outside with very little socialization. However, since coming to her foster home she has begun to show her true personality and everyday conquers a new fear!
Pepper loves to go on walks, snuggle with her Aussie foster brother, explore the backyard and work for her favorite treat…Pepperoni! While she can be timid and skittish, she is working hard to come out of her shell and trust her foster mom. Each day is a new challenge for her as she learns how to adjust to a normal routine.
In just a couple months she’s learned how to sit, walk on a leash, have less accidents in the house, and continues to pick up on more obedience skills each day. Pepper is a very smart girl who would thrive with an experienced family willing to dedicate time and training to continue to build her confidence and social skills. She would also do really well with a calm, laid back canine brother or sister who could play with her and show her the ropes!
Pepper needs the right family who is willing to be patient and go at her pace. She needs to continue working on potty training, riding in the car and coming when called. She has so much potential and is sure to master all these in no time. She would not do well in a very busy home with children or high energy dogs.
She is up to date on her vaccinations, is heartworm negative and has been spayed. Her adoption fee is $300 and is currently being fostered in Greenville, SC.
Age: 6 years old
Breed: Australian Shepherd
Weight: 50 lbs
Bailey is a 6 year old, 50 lb (and is working to gain her girlish figure back) Aussie who loves life. Bailey has relatively good house manners, she is housebroken, crate-trained, and knows basic commands. She is a good listener and follows most commands quickly. She loves her toys and often greets her foster parents with a toy when they return home. Bailey does love her people and will follow from room to room, but she is also fairly independent. She is quite the cuddler and waits to be asked to hop up!
Bailey is working on polite greetings with people.
She is a little unsure at first, as many Aussies are, and her foster parents have found having treats on hand for greetings is the quickest way to her heart. Like most Aussies she will alert you if something is amiss until she is reassured everything is OK. She is a dominant female and needs slow and appropriate introductions with other dogs.
What does Bailey want? Bailey would love adopters that would promise to play fetch with her as much as possible – all day long if she had it her way! She has been getting at least 1 fetch session every day and some days multiple! She has a medium-high energy level. Bailey does play well with the resident male dog and would be happy with a play-mate, but was just as happy as an only dog prior to rescue. Bailey demonstrates some interest in cats, mostly when they run from her, only homes with dog-savvy cats will be considered. Bailey is NOT available to a home with small children.
If you’re looking for an energetic, trainable dog that is out of the puppy stage, Bailey is the girl for you!
Bailey is spayed and will be microchipped and UTD on vaccines prior to adoption. She is currently fostered in Apex, NC. Her adoption fee is $250.

“Are they gonna like me? Oh …do you think they’ll want to adopt me?”
Hey everyone, my name is Thea! I’m a three year old, smaller Aussie girl with the cutest little nub and pointy ears! I really enjoy the company of and playing with children, dogs and even those sneaky cats. I hope my new owner loves to play as much as I do – playing fetch, swimming in the lake or pool and kisses are the things I love the most. I enjoy all types of toys (especially the ones …that squeak!) and love chewy bones.
I have so much fun with children of all sizes, especially when they drop food on the floor during mealtime. I am gentle with kids and tend to sneak kisses in when they’re least expecting it!
My foster mom has three dogs and I spend most of my day playing, eating and napping with them. I may be smaller then my foster brothers, but I have no trouble keeping up – in fact, some days I run circles around them (I am an Aussie, after all). I have learned to sit and stay when receiving a treat and when it is time for breakfast and dinner.
My first family did not have the time to spend with me, and would leave me outside and lonely all hours of the day. I would truly enjoy being with other dogs but I can be by myself too as long as I get lots of love, attention, and play-time with my new family.
I love going for walks, but I still get a bit too excited and need a little work walking on the leash. I would enjoy being with my new family every chance I get, especially in car rides, I’m anxious at first but feeling the wind in my face calms me down immediately.
I really hope my new forever family will love me as much as I will love them!
Thea is UTD on vaccines, spayed, and microchipped. She is currently fostered in Charlotte, NC and her adoption fee is $300.
