Joshua is a happy, spunky, 3.5mo Aussie-Border Collie-mix. His favorite things include playing fetch, wrestling with his furry foster siblings, and cuddling with his foster parents. Joshua is house and crate trained, knows sit, and is working hard on his leash walking skills and other basic commands. He has loved all people and dogs he’s met (even kids!). Joshua is a fairly easy-going puppy who would love an active home to call his own!

Joshua is fostered in Thomasville, NC. He is neutered, UTD on vaccines, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $350 and we do require at least one professional training class for all puppies adopted under a year old. Mosby

Mosby

Name: Mosby
Age: 10 years old
Breed: Australian Shepherd
Gender: Male
Weight: 82 lbs (March 2018) and still losing!

Ten years old, severly depressed, and so over-weight he was unable to take more than a few steps without collapsing. This was the state Mosby was abandoned in at a high-kill shelter by the only family he ever knew after 10 years of being their faithful companion. He weighed in at the shelter at 103 pounds. He was unable to climb stairs or even stand for a bath. Fast forward 5 months: he is 82 pounds and can walk up to 2 miles at a time! Mosby is a VERY happy boy with a personaly that is larger than he was! Mosby will brighten your life, as he has done for his foster family. He has a zest for life that is captivating.
He loves: All Humans, walks/hiking, car rides, children and cats. Mosby loves cats so much he will lick them and snuggle on the couch with them. He also just adores children (we reccomend over the age of 5 because of Mosby’s size). He is such a lover. Fetch. Laying in sunny spots on cool days. Food (obviously) – Mosby is very treat motivated.
He dislikes: Other dogs when he is on the leash. He is leash reactive and will loudly bark and lunge towards other dogs while on the leash – his foster family has been working on this and an adopter would need to continue this training. He is dog selective: he is a very laidback guy and prefers other laidback dogs – none of those up-in-your-face youngsters or overly high energy. Once he gets to know them, Mosby is actually very friendly with other dogs and has no problems sharing his beloved ball. He doesn’t “play” with other dogs but he will sniff/lick their face and gallop around outside with them once he feels comfortable around him.
Mosby is fully house trained/ potty trained and rather hates the crate, so he is left out most days. He enjoys being groomed (even getting nails clipped, brushing teeth) and has no anxiety about going to the vet. Very food motivated (obviously) and smart. Mosby is quite the talker when he gets excited. Mosby loudly greets his foster parents after work each day, an endearing quality that may not be appreciated in apartment living, and does have quite the booming bark for visitors – but is all wiggles once he meets them.
Mosby may be in his golden years but he still has so much love to give. He now has a clean bill of health (for his age). His vet says all lumps and bumps she felt are just “fatty masses” from his age. They do no harm to him and are not cancerous. He has some hip stiffness that is treated with glucosamine and fish oil supplements daily with meals. Mosby is so EASY and is such a JOY to have in your life. Please consider giving Mosby his real forever home!
Mosby is neutered, UTD on vaccines, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $150 and he is currently fostered in Greenville, SC.
If you are an approved applicant and are interested in Mosby please contact the adoption committee. If you have not yet applied please visit our website for adoption procedures and application.

Portia

Portia

Name: Portia
Age: 10 months (May 2018)
Breed: Aussie Mix
Gender: Female
Weight: approx 25 lbs

Portia is a 10mo Black Bear…errr…Aussie mix who will melt your heart with her sweet little smile. She’s a petite little thing (~25lb) who is still so, so shy but wants to love so, so big!

Portia has come a long way since joining Carolina Hearts – her foster parents lovingly called her Bump the first few weeks – she could be carried, set, and would sit like a fluffy little bump on a log. She now, with a little encouragement, will go outside on her own and even enjoys walks around the neighborhood with her foster siblings (though she is still wary of those scary cars)! Portia adores her foster mom and has started to come when called and will happily climb in her lap for evening cuddles. She is still wary of new people and will likely pick her person and be fully devoted to them.

Portia has done well with all the dogs she has met and would love a home with a friendly canine companion to help bring her out of her shell. She adores the kitties in her foster home and tries so, so hard to get them to play with her! She’s done well meeting respectful children out and about but we do feel she would do best in a home with older children as she does still spook easily.

Portia is (mostly) house and crate trained – she rarely makes a peep and is non-destructive but does like having a safe space to retreat to. She will likely regress in an adoptive home, so she will need a patient adopter who understands this and is willing to work through her shyness and socialization needs to get her to be her best self. She may never be the life of the party, but she is going to be a great cuddle and hopefully even walking buddy.

Portia is spayed, UTD on vaccines, and ???is microchipped. She is currently fostered in Charlotte, NC and her adoption fee is $325.

Mara Jade

Mara Jade

Name: Mara Jade
Age: 4-5 wks (June 1st)
Breed: Cattle Dog/Great Pyrenees mix
Gender: Female

Meet Mara Jade who is a baby cattle dog/great pyrenees puppy.

She is only around 4-5 weeks old (June 1st), so we’ll be keeping her in foster another month or two to ensure she gets all the socialization she needs. She will be available for adoption mid-July after she has two rounds of vaccinations and other age-appropriate vetting.

(Reminder: We will give APPROVED applicants priority for all new dogs and puppies. If you are approved, please email the adoption committee and let them know of your interest. Also, keep in mind that we do not place based on coat/color/pattern, and same-gender match-ups (i.e. placing a female puppy with an adult female) are discouraged and we will give preference to mixed-gender pairings.)

Arcus

Arcus

Name: Arcus
Age: 2 1/2 years old
Breed: Smooth Collie mix
Gender: Male
Weight: 60 lbs

Arcus is a 60 lb, two and a half year old smooth collie mix with a charming, goofy personality and a perpetual wink. This absolute sweetheart wants to be friends with everyone he meets! However, he is still learning human manners, like not to jump on people when greeting. Despite months of recovering in the shelter from a painful surgery, Arcus has a happy-go-lucky attitude and is not limited by only having one eye. He is confident and comfortable in the world, if at times a little clumsy. Arcus is great with other dogs, indifferent to cats, and adoring of people. His loves to be close to people- preferably, sitting on them and snuggling his big face into their shoulder while making contented little noises. Arcus’ easy exuberance is infectious.

Arcus has a hilarious range of vocal stylings, from singing along to opera music to Chewbacca grumbles and tiny, high-pitched woofs. He would make a great guard dog with his baritone bark. Like most herding dogs, Arcus needs exercise and stimulation with at least 2 good walks a day. If bored or under-stimulated, he will tell you with his words. Arcus is a smart boy who already knows sit, down, and paw, and is working on off, leave it, and hush. Arcus has a type of coat that requires regular brushing, which he is fine with.

Arcus would love a canine sibling to play with and a fenced yard to stretch his long legs in. Due to his size, blindside, and belief that he is a lap dog, Arcus should be in a home without small children. If you’re looking for a best bud who will love you unconditionally and keep you laughing, Arcus could be the boy for you! Arcus is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and house- and crate-trained. He is currently fostered in Chapel Hill, NC, and his adoption fee is $300.
