Dorian Gray

Dorian Gray

Name: Dorian Gray
Age: 7 months (November 2018)
Breed: Mini Aussie
Gender: Female

Meet Gray! She’s a 7 month old mini Aussie and an absolute delight. Gray had a rough start in life due to bad case of demodectic mange which left her temporarily hairless, but after just a few weeks of treatments, baths, and regular meals she’s bounced back. As you can see from the pictures Gray’s coat is continuing to grow but will fill back in within the next month.

Personality wise – Gray is a being of pure joy. Whether she’s running circles around her older brothers, or sitting quietly working on her favorite bone, you get the feeling she’s content in any situation. But don’t let her happy go lucky attitude fool you – Gray is sharp as a tack. She’s quick to learn and has already mastered sitting, staying, and coming when called. When looking for her around the house you’ll often find she’s been following right behind you all along, waiting for the next direction. She’s great on a leash, crate trained, friendly with dogs and cats, and people of all ages.

As expected with puppies, Gray is still working on potty training but if kept on a regular schedule she does fine. Gray is a typical high energy Aussie and would make a great addition to any home especially one with dogs looking for playmates or an experienced Aussie home.

Gray’s likes include: long walks, playing fetch with tennis balls, bones, sweater weather, and masterpiece theater on PBS.

Gray’s dislikes include: Electronic dance music and being compared to Dobby the house elf.

Gray is current on her vaccines, microchipped, and will be spayed prior to adoption. Her adoption fee is $325 and she is fostered in Asheville, NC.

Cody

Cody

Name: Cody
Age: 9 years old
Breed: Australian Shepherd
Gender: Male

Cody – Available Soon!
Would you like all the best qualities of an Aussie in a calmer package? Like fine wine, aussies mellow with age!
Cody is a sweet, affectionate 9 year old who takes his job as devoted companion very seriously. He wants nothing more than to be by your side, and will toddle around the house after you, lay contentedly at your feet or eagerly accompany you on a walk or car ride. Despite his great desire to be with you, he will patiently and quietly wait in his crate when you leave—greeting you with a classic Aussie wiggle butt happy dance when you return. There is a softness in his eyes and a tentative quality to his approach (as though he worries about doing the right thing and wants to please) that will melt your heart.
Cody does well with the other dogs in his foster home but could easily be quite happy as an only dog. He has been tested briefly with cats and did fine. He shows no prey drive toward the toy dog in his foster home.
Cody came into rescue after the death of his owner. He does not appear to have been well cared for—he is underweight and lacks strength and muscle mass in his hind end. He has some arthritis which is being treated with a joint supplement. Already with daily walking and healthy diet, we are seeing more of a spring in Cody’s step. He will be quite a handsome gentleman when his shaved coat grows in and he gains weight and muscle tone. He is a little hard of hearing but responds readily to louder voices, claps, whistles and gestures.
Cody walks nicely on and off leash. He is housebroken (although he did do some marking when he first arrived so would need to be watched initially.) He is a very quiet dog—we have yet to hear him bark! His quiet, low key nature would make him well suited for apartment dwelling. Equally, he has been great off leash walking in the woods and at the beach so would do well in a rural setting. Whatever your lifestyle, Cody will happily fit himself in if you give him the chance. In return, you will have the dearest friend and companion anyone could ask for.

Maz Kanata

Maz Kanata

Name: Maz Kanata
Age: 5 months (October 2018)
Breed: Cattle Dog/Great Pyrenees mix
Gender: Female

Maz Kanata (aka Maz-Rataz, Pee-Wee, Ow-Stop-That-That-Hurts) is a five month old Australian Cattle Dog-Great Pyrenees mix (yes, you read that right) who is sweet, sassy, and wicked smart.

This girl is a perfect blend of the two breeds – both the good and the bad, but mostly the good. She is very people focused and a dream to train, but she also enjoys talking back to human and dog alike – this girl is opinionated and not afraid to share it! The Pyr seems to have cut the ACD energy to a level manageable by mere mortals and we predict she will be in the moderate to moderate-high range. She currently enjoys an hour of playtime with her foster brother before the workday and several hours after and is beginning to sleep through the night. Maz has surprisingly good recall for such a young pup – when she wants to – occasionally the notorious Pyr selective hearing kicks in and she conveniently forgets what “come” means. So her foster family would prefer a fenced in yard or commitment to leash walking/running. Despite her namesake, we do expect Maz to be on the larger side given her breed mix and current weight – our best guess is 50-70lb full grown.

Maz adores her foster brother and would love a male canine sibling in her forever home. We expect that she is young enough to learn to live with dog savvy cats and respectful children (who don’t mind razor sharp teeth for the next few months). When she’s not sassing back, she adores humans and cuddles – baths no so much. Maz is working on potty training and crate training – she now happily runs into her crate and sits for each meal and will go in for the day with a toy or treat. Speaking of toys – does this girl LOVE tennis balls. Her favorite game (besides chewing on her foster brother) is carrying around one tennis ball while playing soccer with another (perhaps she’s been watching a bit too much World Cup?!)! She settles nicely with a bone or antler when she’s a bit more worn out.

Maz is going to make an AMAZING addition to her forever home.

Maz Kanata is up to date on vaccines and is microchipped.  She is fostered in Charlotte, NC, and her adoption fee is $350.

In addition to the adoption fee there is a $200 spay and training deposit that will be refunded upon proof of completion by 6 months of age. Please visit our website for more information on this deposit.

Quigley

Quigley

Name: Quigley
Age: 6 1/2 years old
Breed: Mini Aussie
Gender: Male

Say hello to Quigley! The most adorable six and a half year-old Miniature American Shepherd you will ever meet.

Quigley came to us as an owner-surrender.  His previous family took great care of him and taught him some impeccable manners. He is house trained, knows a list long list of commands (“Bump It” being one of our favorites), and will even stay off of couches and beds (if thats REALLY what you want).  Quigley prefers having the run of the home during the day and is not fond of being placed in a crate. He is not destructive when left home alone and simply prefers the luxury of a big fluffy blanket to the walls and door of a crate.  He really enjoys exploring on daily walks! While he does well on his leash, he recently underwent training to work on a bit of leash reactivity and is in need of a family who will continue that training. Leash reactivity is common in herding breeds, and can be solved simply enough with dedicated training.

Off-leash, Quigley is a playful and polite pup with good recall. At the dog park he is a treat and enjoys meeting new friends, but will stick by your side when he is ready to go home. This little guy spent his entire life with an older sister and will do best in a home with another dog. He currently enjoys his daily opportunity to herd his foster brother around the back yard and loves coming inside to play tug. While Quigley does express his excitement by running and skipping around the yard- he is far from a high energy pup. After a good walk or romp with a friend he is the first in line to snuggle up next to his humans. Quigley would be a great option for an adopter who works away from home, or someone who would not be able to keep up with the exercise requirements of a young, exuberant dog.

Quigley is the quiet type- but will definitely talk his way into belly rubs and scratches. He’s a sweetheart who is an easy addition to many homes and is looking for another family to share their love with him. While he is an absolute delight with dogs and adults, he is not suited for a home with small children. Ultimately, Quigley was surrendered to our rescue for nipping a small child, and we will not place him in a situation where he may be uncomfortable and make another bad decision out of fear.

Quigley is neutered and microchipped. He will be up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm testing prior to adoption. He is currently being fostered in Frederick, MD and his adoption fee is $275.

Reutter

Reutter

Name: Reutter
Age: 1 year old
Breed: Australian Shepherd
Gender: Male

This handsome hunk of fluff is Reutter (pronounced ROOTER – “It’s a car thing, you wouldn’t understand,” he says). Reutter is a one year old Australian Shepherd pup who has it all — sweet, smarts and sass!

Reutter is deaf, but he doesn’t know that and he surely doesn’t let it slow him down at all. He loves a good romp of zoomies in the yard with his foster siblings by his side. Reutter really doesn’t like to be left alone, so he’d be great for someone with another pup who wants a buddy. Being deaf, he does know some hand signals for “sit” and “good boy!” His foster mom is working with him to learn more. But being wicked smart, he’s learning new ones daily.

Reutter is a very medium energy, confident pup and needs an experienced adoptive home that can keep working with him and his training. He loves hanging and playing with his foster siblings. He is a little rough for cats (more curious than anything) but would likely be alright with super dog savvy ones. Reutter loves children and adults alike. He would do best in a home with another dog to help keep him social and continue to guide him to being the best he can be.

Reutter is a crazy sweet guy who loves ear scratches and to flop his fluffy body in your lap for more love. In his former life, he enjoyed hiking and paddleboarding, so if you are the outdoorsy type, Reutter would love to be your sidekick! Reutter definitely has a curious and nosey side to him and he can get into mischief if left unattended.

Reutter is current on his vaccines, microchipped, and neutered. His adoption fee is $300 and he’s fostered in Winston Salem, NC.
