Roxy

Pippen

Pippen

Name: Pippen
Age: 4-5 years old
Breed: Australian Shepherd/Border mix
Gender: Female
Weight: 50 lbs

Pippen, “Pip” is a 4-5 year old, red tricolor, Aussie/border collie girl who weighs around 50 pounds (she’s a bit chunky, though).

From day one, Pip has been a happy go lucky, sweet dog, who welcomes you with her happy smile and tail wagging every time you walk through the door. She is full of smiles, and listens well when asked to do something.

Pip has been exercise restricted, due to undergoing HW treatment, however she will likely be a medium-to-high energy level dog when given the opportunity. Pip has been living with two doggy siblings (one small, one big) and gets great with both. Pippen can be picky about her canine companions, so she would likely do best with a male sibling who has a comparable energy level. She has also done well with cats and small children. The one thing Pip loves more than anything is human contact – she is happiest when cuddling with you, getting pets, or just being near you.

Pip rides well in the car, and is crate trained if needed. However, she currently has free reign of the house and has no issues. She walks well on leash, and needs a little work on her recall and some basic manners. Pip’s sweet excitement is one of her greatest qualities, but will also need ongoing training to contain that excitement and from jumping on new guests.

An ideal home for Pip would be an active family, with the willingness and availability to continue with her training and ensure she gets enough daily exercise. She would be great with any siblings (dog or human) to help teach her how to play, and a backyard to play in.

Pippen is up-to-date on all vaccines, has been spayed and microchipped. She is currently fostered in Columbia, SC, and her adoption fee is $300.

Sadie

Sadie

Name: Sadie
Age: 1 year old
Breed: Australian Shepherd/Border Collie
Gender: Female
Weight:

Say hello to Sadie! This lovely lady is a one year old, red bicolor Aussie/border collie mix (at least, that’s our best guess!). Sadie is a sweetheart whose energy and brainpower were just too much for her original owners, so she came to Carolina Hearts for fostering and rehoming.

As one can imagine an Aussie/border blend might be, Sadie is full of energy and loves to play! She is very smart, and quite ball/toy motivated. Along with retrieving and learning new tricks, Sadie enjoys wrestling and playing with her foster siblings. She also knows basic commands, walks well on a leash, and she is house and crate trained.

Sadie adores her people, and has lots of love to give once she’s warmed up to someone. She loves to cuddle with her foster mom – if she’s not too busy chasing the cats, of course. While Sadie is not aggressive with cats, she is very curious, and would probably do best in a home with no feline friends (or very dog savvy cats – but really, why risk it?). Sadie does well with small children, but is a little shy of strangers, and she will typically bark at them until she feels comfortable. It doesn’t take too long, but adopters expecting lots of houseguests should be prepared to continue working on her socialization.

An ideal home for Sadie would be an active family with herding breed experience, as well as the willingness and availability to continue with her training, and to ensure that she gets enough daily exercise to meet the needs of a young Aussie/border. She would be great with friendly siblings who want to play (preferably male dogs), and while she is good with children, it would be best for her to go to a home with children over the age of five due to her energy level.

Sadie is up to date on all vaccines, has been spayed and microchipped. She is fostered in Raeford, NC, and her adoption fee is $300.

Breed: Australian Shepherd/Springer Spaniel mix

She is a smart little lady and adapts very well to her environment. She will be available for adoption after her next round of vaccines. Frida is fostered in Durham, NC and her adoption fee is $350.

Onion

Onion

Name: Onion
Age: 11 weeks
Breed: Australian Shepherd
Gender: Female

Onion is an 11 week old (as of July 8), deaf and blind, double merle Aussie puppy. Put all low expectations and images of a sad, deprived puppy aside– Onion is happy, sweet and feisty! She negotiates a known environment environment with ease and will confidently explore a new area, unfazed by the occasional bump along the way. She enjoys the company of other dogs and will wrestle and play, or snuggle and snooze along side her foster brothers.

Onion has a unique ability to keep herself happily entertained. One morning, shortly after being introduced to the dog door, she spent half an hour “practicing” it–taking herself in and out in a variety of interesting ways. She enjoys chew toys, tugging, exploring, carrying toys about, digging in the sand pit in the yard, and splashing in and out of the kiddie pool.

Onion greets all people with utter delight! She does have the young puppy’s desire to mouth; and bare feet and ankles bring out her piranha-like tendencies. Her foster mom is working on helping her find more appropriate ways to greet and show her affection. In her quieter moods she will cuddle right up to you and she Loves belly rubs.

Onion has been introduced to the crate, spending a couple hours at a time in one. She fusses and walks around for awhile, but will eventually settle. At this point she is happier left in a gated section of the kitchen. She sleeps there quietly through the night. Her house training is still in the early stages, but it is improving and in a limited area she uses puppy pads with a fair degree of accuracy. Onion is learning sit and down with touch signals. She is learning to walk on a harness and leash.

Onion looks to be a high-medium energy level dog. She is seeking an adopter with understanding of a herding dog’s need for both physical and mental exercise and the patience and creativity to adapt to her special needs in order to allow her to thrive. She needs a traditionally fenced yard and a home with no children under age ten. She would do best in a home with a doggy companion or someone with her a good portion of the day.

Onion is fostered in Manteo, NC, and her adoption fee is $350. She is current on her scheduled puppy vaccines, and will be microchipped prior to adoption.
