Meet Mama Apple – a year-year and a half old Aussie-Border Collie girl looking for her furever home. She is a small girl who will be around 32/33lb once she’s filled out.
Apple came to Carolina Hearts with her 8 beautiful babies after having been dumped at a rural SC shelter. It is evident she had little human interaction before coming into rescue – however it is also evident that she desperately wants to trust, love, and be loved. Since weaning her puppies Mama Apple has made amazing progress – she now walks on a leash, seeks out affection, searches the toy bin for just the right toy, and LOVES playing with her foster siblings. She is finally experiencing the puppy-hood she missed out on!
She is still very shy and will need an adopter willing to continue working with her – in return once she finally decides to trust her person fully she is going to be an adoring and extremely loyal companion. Apple seems to do best with male siblings – however she has done well with some females and likely will continue to do even better post spay. We do think she would be best in a home with a sibling – she gains confidence around other dogs and LOVES to play – this girl is all puppy when it comes to play time.
Apple is working on crate and house training in foster and has been rapidly improving. She still has a mischievous streak so she is not completely trustworthy out of the crate in a non-puppy proofed space. She now walks very well on a leash and is gaining confidence on small walks with her foster siblings. Apple has shown no interest in bothering her feline foster siblings and while she has not been around many children we believe she would do best in a home with older/no children to start as young ones may overwhelm her as she continues to learn to trust people.
Apple is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. She is currently fostered in Matthews, NC.
