Calling all Border Collie lovers! Have we got a pup for you! Meet Cal, an 8 month old Border Collie looking for a forever home to call his own. Cal is a (we believe) working stock BC boy who found himself stray in Virginia over the holidays, when no one came forward to claim him Carolina Hearts stepped in.
Cal is a typical Border Collie puppy – sweet, inquisitive, and smart as they come – he seems to have had some basic training prior to foster and is picking up new commands like a champ. While we know nothing about his past, being a ‘house dog’ does seem a bit new to him – he’s adjusting well and learning that counter surfing is not considered good etiquette. He has the intensity and quirkiness associated with Border Collies and would do best in a home who understands this and will continue to work with him. He is crate trained and working on house training (he hasn’t quite figured out how to ask to go out yet). Cal currently weighs 32lb and we do not expect him to exceed 40lb once he is full grown.
Thus far, Cal has gotten along well with the people and dogs he has met. He loves attention and is learning that sitting for pets yields more love than jumping up. Cal is still a puppy and can be a bit mouthy, so we do not recommend a home with children under 6. He loves playing with his 9mo Aussie-mix brother – they would wrestle and chase all day given the option. But he is also content to hang out with his people (once he’s gotten that BC energy out) – if you’ve got a lap, he’s in it! He respects the dominant female in his foster home and would likely do well with one in his forever home. He can be a bit intense with toys when playing with his foster brother – so toy time is supervised. Cal seems to have a moderate-high energy level, so an active family who understands his need for both physical and mental exercise is a must. He is a bit too interested in his feline foster brother, so we do not recommend him to a home with cats.
Cal is currently fostered in Charlotte, NC. He is UTD on vaccines and microchipped. He will be available for adoption after his neuter at the end of January. His adoption fee is $325.
