Darwin is a 7-month-old, mid to high energy, bi-colored Australian Shepherd, who is a super sweet, happy and smart boy looking for a family to call his own!

Darwin is a confident pup, who is very respectful of other dogs (including his grumpy older foster brother), but will stand his ground when pushed. He is happiest when playing with/chewing on his other foster brother (not the grumpy one) or being outside either on walks or in the running around the backyard with his foster brothers. Outside is the best, especially chasing leaves! On his solo walks, Darwin walks well on a leash, but in a group, he does pull a bit to outpace his foster siblings. Even better than being outside for Darwin is dinner and snacks — that’s when his bunny tendencies come out as he hops to his crate for mealtime. Darwin is incredibly food motivated, which makes training easy. However, if you are without snacks, Darwin does exhibit some “selective hearing” in his responsiveness to commands. His foster family is working hard on teaching him that four paws on the ground means more ear scratches (the best thing ever) and other commands like “drop it” (the worst). Darwin loves people and, in true Velcro form, is never far from you. In the times when he is tired, Darwin settles down nicely for snuggles or with an antler or bone to chew.

Darwin is house-broken and crate trained, and would do well to a family who would continue his training as he shows a lot of promise! Darwin would love a home with another dog to play with and also show him how he can be the best dog he can be. His previous home did have children and cats, and he did very well with them, but has not interacted with either in his foster home. However, given his bunny-like tendencies, enthusiastic treat eating, and 50 lb (and growing!) size, he may be best with a home with older children. Darwin would love an active family with a fenced yard to call his own, or an outdoorsy adopter willing to take him on lots of adventures (car rides are the best!).

Darwin is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $325 and he is currently fostered in Greensboro, NC.
