Name: Xander
Age: 2-3 years old
Breed: Aussie
Gender: Male (neutered)

Xander is a 3-4 year old sweet boy, who had a very rough start in life. He is shy meeting new people and nervous of new dogs. However, with a little time he gets over his initial fears and becomes the sweetest little wiggle butt ever! Now that Xander has warmed up to his foster parents he is completely attached. He follows his people everywhere, LOVES to snuggle, and has definitely become a true Velcro Aussie! He loves being petted and getting belly rubs and is never too far from his people – laying at their feet or snuggled up right next to them. Because of this strong attachment, he doesn’t like to be left alone. When he first got into foster, he would bark on and off the whole time he was left alone. But he has improved immensely since coming in to foster. He still barks a little right when you leave him, but settles down quickly and relaxes or sleeps most of the day while his foster parents are at work. His crate manners are still a work in progress, and Xander wouldn’t be the best fit for an apartment home where barking would be an issue.

Xander is very respectful of other dogs. He was scared of his rambunctious young foster siblings at first, but has gotten much more comfortable with them over the past couple of weeks. He loves going on walks with them and is happy living with them, but if they try to play with him he still gets nervous. He does show signs of wanting to play, but can’t quite figure out how to start it and is still very cautious. Xander would be happy as an only dog, or in a home with other respectful dogs who will give him his space (at least initially).

Despite being a little nervous of new situations, Xander is still very curious. He likes to go new places and see all the people and dogs around. His foster home has been working on socializing him and getting him used to new experiences and he’s done great! He is great riding in the car and is learning leash manners and walks very well with a no-pull harness. Xander is medium-energy level for an Aussie. He loves walks and would like a home where he can go on multiple walks per day. If he had a fenced yard, he would enjoy running around and fetching a ball once he got comfortable. After walks and playing, he loves to cuddle with his people and is happy to relax in the house.

Xander would do best in an Aussie experienced home with no children. He is dog and cat friendly. He knows basic commands- sit, stay, and come- and is house broken and crate trained. If you’re looking for a sweet, super velcro boy, and are willing to put in the love and training to help him feel comfortable and build his confidence, Xander is your man!

Xander is UTD on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped. He is currently fostered in Raleigh, NC and his adoption fee is $250.
